Keeping People Safe
All our counsellors have taken professional training in counselling or psychotherapy and have relevant experience of supporting children and young people. Counsellors are DBS checked and carefully vetted before starting with TSS. In addition to taking the level 3 core group safeguarding training our team attend other safeguarding training if they have not already done these, such as training in the recognising and acting on abuse and child sexual exploitation and domestic violence and abuse.
There is a programme of additional training on offer to ensure our counsellors remain up to date and meet the BACP Minded expected competencies for counsellors working with children and young people. Many of our counsellors work on a voluntary basis when in the second or third year of a professional counselling training. Whether volunteering or employed TSS counsellors carry out a professional and responsible role and are bound by the TSS policies and procedures, the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework and statutory requirements.
